TechEd Snacks

Jim Blizzard my buddy out of Portland posted about the strategy that must be employed to actually score yourself one of the coveted Dove bars.

I have found that is the strategy you must employ to score any snacks!  At the PDC the snack tables were the stuff of every 12 year old (or developers) dreams.  Mountains of junk food piled high at all times.  Candy bars, cookies, chips and soda.  Pretty much the four food groups for most developers.

Admittedly it isn't the healthiest stuff but when you need some sustenance to sit through another 75 minute session it hits the spot.  Someone however got the crazy idea that TechEd should go down a healthier route.  What does that mean?  One of two things.  Either the tables are stocked with things like Granola Bars, PowerBars, Atkins Bars, Apples, Oranges, Bannanas, Popcorn, Dried Fruit, Nuts, Carrots and Celery or you got there to late and the only thing left is the fruit! It is like they decided not only are we going to get you eating healthy we are going to make sure we limit your intake.

I heard rumors of a few candy bars but they proved nearly as elusive as the dove bars Jim mentions.

Now I am sure all of this is great.  I actually am loving it since I haven't snacked almost at all since I got here (Well I did score one of those elusive dove bars). I am sure that this is probably in response to some feedback they received at PDC. The part I don't understand is why not have some variety?  I have to imagine the vast majority of developers would rather eat Twinkies and Cheetos than Celery sticks and Fruit. Once they have the variety thing out of the way make sure those tables are full at all times. Going out to get a snack after a long session and just seeing bare tables with a few pieces of fruit left is ridiculous.
